The European ash trees in Germany and Europe are highly endangered. The tree’s death, caused by the fungus Hymenoscyphus pseudoalbidus, has affected almost all European ash trees. The infestation leads to the death of the trees. There is no resistance yet.

The fungus also leaves its mark in the Black Forest. A beautiful area of European ash trees in the forests of the District Office Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald has almost completely died off. The population had to be completely cleared. As a new tree species, the native English oak and, on humid sites, the alder is being used for reforestation, which finds an optimal growing space in the area.
