Anaram is an Afghan girl, her name means 'Endless Light'. In the turmoil of the Afghan conflict of the 2000s, she is severely injured one morning and is first aided by Bundeswehr soldiers. Anaram's father fights on the side of the Taliban, and with him, two other Taliban fighters enter the scene, which is accidentally captured by a war reporter. Thus, a photographic document is created that eventually wins the award for the best war photography of the year.
In fictional short stories, the author sketches the personal and emotional backgrounds of the actors: the lamenting mother who fears losing her last child to the war. German soldiers who are drawn from their civilian lives into violent confrontations abroad; who are physically and psychologically injured. Taliban and residents of a valley who must survive, somewhere in northern Afghanistan.
